Residential HVAC Service Technician

We are hiring an experienced Residential HVAC Service Technician to join our team. You will be the face of our company in customers' homes, performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on residential HVAC systems. Our techs work a structured route with strong dispatch support and a stocked service van — the focus is on fixing equipment correctly and treating customers well.

Responsibilities

Diagnose malfunctions in residential air conditioners, heat pumps, gas furnaces, and air handlers using electrical meters, manifold gauge sets, and refrigerant analyzers
Perform refrigerant leak checks, recover, evacuate, and recharge systems using EPA 608-compliant procedures and a digital recovery machine
Replace and repair compressors, condenser fan motors, evaporator coils, expansion valves, capacitors, contactors, and control boards
Inspect, clean, and adjust burners, heat exchangers, ignitors, and flue systems on gas and propane furnaces
Perform seasonal tune-ups (spring A/C check, fall heat check) including filter replacement, coil cleaning, electrical connections, and system performance testing
Install programmable and smart thermostats and walk customers through operation
Identify and quote additional repairs, maintenance agreements, and equipment replacement opportunities using company-provided pricing tools
Complete service call documentation in the field software (Service Titan, Housecall Pro, or similar) before leaving the job site
Maintain a clean, organized company vehicle with accurate parts inventory and calibrated tools
Communicate estimated arrival times, job status, and costs clearly to homeowners
Follow all safety protocols including electrical lockout/tagout, proper refrigerant handling, and ladder and confined-space procedures

Requirements

EPA Section 608 Universal certification — required before first day
2+ years of residential HVAC service experience (not installation-only)
Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical faults independently using standard test equipment
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record — you will drive a company vehicle daily
Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments in summer and winter conditions
Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and work in confined spaces
Strong customer communication skills — you will interact directly with homeowners on every call
Availability to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend emergencies

Preferred Qualifications

NATE certification (Core + Air Conditioning or Heat Pump specialty)
Experience with heat pump systems including Carrier, Lennox, Trane, or Rheem equipment
Familiarity with zoning systems, variable-speed equipment, and smart thermostat integration
Experience using field service software (Service Titan, Housecall Pro, FieldEdge)
A2L refrigerant handling training (R-454B, R-32) — increasingly required as HFO equipment enters the field
