Employers requiring Type III are almost exclusively in commercial mechanical contracting — specifically firms that service centrifugal chiller plants. These positions typically pay $35–$55/hr and above depending on market and experience, reflecting both technical complexity and the specialized knowledge required. Manufacturer-specific training (Carrier, Trane, York, Daikin) is frequently required alongside Type III for warranty service work.
